We might as well play with ourselves!!

Sorry, that title may not have been in the best taste. But I am a bit pissed off that Yet ANOTHER friendly has been canceled. Tunisia will NOT be playing New Zealand tommorrow night as a final warm up to the World cup games. So this is what? … the 5th team that canceled on Tunisia.

Instead Tunisia will be playing a collection of Bavarian amateurs tonight, so If you are in the Region, and are up for some good football, you may get a chance on the pitch because it seems several teams have backed away from friendliess with Tunisia.

Overall the buildup and warmup to the world cup has been alright. This group has alot of experience competing together and I hope their conditioning is fine regardless of how many warm up games they have played. When you think about it Brasil only played 1 warm up friendly vs New Zealand and the rest vs amatuer teams.

Hopefully Tunisia is hungry and they play with the intensity in their group matches.

I feel your pain Bessam. I’m particularly pissed about the initial withdrawal of the Kuwaiti team. It would have been nice to come up against their style of football to gear us up for the Saudis. As for Iraq, I can’t see how one could blame a country thats battling an occupation and basically going through a civil war at the same time for not being able to assemble their team. They have a good squad though (as we saw at the olympics) and we would have benefitted from playing them. New Zealand wouldn’t have been the best tune up for us. Their style of football is completely different from that of Saudi and I would be worried that they would take the game way too seriously (like the aussies did against holland) and would have caused us injuries. I think the key for us is to keep the group intact and in top shape. The rest should take care of itself. We’re better than the Saudi team but I’m still nervous about the game because we need a win to give us a realistic chance of getting out of the first round. This team is more capable than any other we have every had in recent memory and I can’t wait for this thing to start.

Good observations Rami. Thanks for your post and we hope to hear from you again soon. I hear that the Tunisian delegation offered money to the New Zealand footballing association but the new zealand players pulled out. About 1000 people came to watch the Tunisian team train and they should be playing a Bavarian team tonight as a last warm up. Tunisia will have not provided its opponent with a good look at its strength before the cup. Tunisia is truly an unknown quantity to the rest of the world. But we know that they are truly a tough nut to crack . Coach Lemerre has proclaimed that the dream of Tunisia which the team wishes to fulfill is reaching the final 16.
