Tunisia vs. France Open Thread

TNFR30052010It’s two days away now but unfortunately I don’t have time for a full preview for this one. I feel bad because it’s a huge game for us (basically our World Cup as some readers called it) but its out of my hands. Not sure what it is about France friendlies but when we played them last year in Paris the same thing happened and I had to leave an open thread for pre and post match jibber jabber. Thankfully I already wrote a preview up for Goal.com so if you want to get oriented on the context of the game then take a look there.

Funnily enough, when I was writing that it had a decidedly “Domenech to become Tunisia coach” slant to it but that possibility has since been downplayed by the FTF (PHEW!). Instead it looks like Bertrand Marchand and Vahid Halilhodzic are the two managers with the best chances of landing a job (and they’re much more understandable options at that). Football news sure does move fast!

A reminder of the squads is after the jump. We have a mammoth one with 33 players while France slimmed theirs down to 23 recently. Our probable starting lineup that I put in the linked preview isn’t my preferred one per se, just my best guess at what Sami Trabelsi might opt for. I doubt Chikhaoui will start and would rather we not take risks with him. Obviously want to see him play but just a successful 20 or 30 minute cameo would be good enough for me.

Kickoff: 20:00 Tunisia Time, 15:00 EST (I’ll post links to streams of the game on TNWCB’s Facebook page and in the comments on this thread when they become available)

Liveblog: Head over to France WCB where Sarah will be following the game as it happens. Would’ve liked to collaborate on this but I’ll be busy writing the match report for Goal as the game is going on. Next time inshallah!

Pictures of France’s arrival are available here. Others of the Eagles in training here.

Here’s what happened last time we played France and below is that Zitouni goal from the last time Les Bleus came to Rades (they were world champions back then and we tied them 1-1, talk about the good ol’ days!). Drop your comments throughout the buildup, during the game, and after it if you have something to say and enjoy the game!

Also Benachour was straight on FIRE back then, arguably better than Chikha is right now.

I don't have a lot of hope of seeing something spectacular on sunday, i just hope the players show us that they're motivated and that Rades will be full.

  • AchrafCABISTE

Hopefully the stadium will be full, As usual the FTF announced that females and kids under 12 get in for free, I am assuming they did not sell enough tickets. Anyways, I just want to watch a fun game from our boys with plenty of chances from attack. I am looking forward to watching how Allagui plays, this is a big game for him to show he deserves to play for the NT and he has a lot of teams from Division one bundesliga watching him. Hopefully Darragi, Dhouadi, and Msekni will be healthy. I also think it will be better to get Chikha in at the 60 minute mark that way we wont risk anything and he can get a standing ovation.

Here is who i want to see start

    ———-Kasraoui————-
    Ifa—-Yahia—-Hagui—-Mikari
    ———Ragued—Nafti——–
    Darragi—————Banachour
    —–Allagui——–Jemaa—–

  • AchrafCABISTE

I will change Jmel for Yahia since i just saw that he withdrew from this match because he is not focused enough as he is with his grandmother

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

    1st Half:

    ———-Kasraoui————-
    Ifa—–Haggui——Jmel–Mikari
    ———Ragued—Nafti——–
    Dhaouadi—-Darragi——Mouihbi
    ————Allagui————-

    2nd Half:

    ———–Kasraoui—————–
    Meriah—-Haggui-B.Yousef—Chammem
    ———B.Yahia—Hammami——–
    Benachour—————Msakni——
    ———-Jemaa—-Khlifa————

IMO we should give Kasraoui the chance to play most of the game seeing how Balbouli will be able to play against Morocco and already has played.
In the 2nd half also sub bena for Chikha and Jemaa or Khlifa for FBK so it will look like this:

    ———–Kasraoui—————–
    Meriah—-Haggui-B.Yousef—Chammem
    ———B.Yahia—Hammami——–
    FBK———-Chikhaoui——-Msakni
    ———-Jemaa/Khlifa————

After watching France against Costa Rica I truly believe Tunisia can and will put out a victory.

BTW the 6 WC reps for CAF have been quite disappointing in the run in to South Africa 2010 thus far. Lack of organization and continuity really could lead to a grand humiliation in the biggest moment in the history of African football. The 6 WC reps really need to dig deep and deliver the goods despite the obvious systemic flaws in CAF football.

Happy to hear about marchand. For now we need to build something reliable pretty fast, and he is the one. He knows the generation nafkha, jemal, chermiti etc well he knows all their abilities and where they play best, the same for dhaouadi, mouihbi etc. He is familiar with the league, country and look what he did with etoile.

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

So now Ali Hafsi confirms that it is gonna be one of those 3…i really hope it's not Elie Baup either! sighh….

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Really hope its not Elie Baup…

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Here's our starting lineup for tomorrow according to Mosaique FM:

    Kasraoui
    Iffa Hagui Jmel Mikari
    Nafti Korbi
    FBK Darragi Msakni
    Jemaa

Cool to see Nafti starting, I hope it helps our passing at that position. Chikhaoui will probably play 10 or 15 minutes according to people who attended the training sessions. Ben Achour will likely replace Darragi. Ragued will likely replace Nafti. Hope Allagui gets some run replacing Jemaa.

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

I was so hoping to see a Nafti- Ragued pair up….ah well maybe we'll get to see Saihi in a months time.

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Yea we'll see what happens. None of it is 100 percent. For example: This one has video of Trabelsi saying that its actually Mathlouthi starting, Kasraoui coming in for the second half. And Mouihbi in the place of Msakni… So conflicting reports from Mosaique and Dimasport: http://www.dimasport.net/index.php?option=com_c...

  • Picasso10

Wallah Tunesien skal nok vinde allesammen med Darragi er der en stor chance for vi vinder shabbab

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

    Inshallah!

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Seems like Mouihbi and Korbi got into it in practice. Someone who attended training said that Korbi was practicing like this was a World Cup match. I guess there were some crunching tackles. Mouihbi probably didn't appreciate it since he's just recovering from injury and is scared of getting a new one. Lets hope this is all water under the bridge now and won't affect team unity tomorrow: http://www.infosfoot.net/fr/articles/article.ph...

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

Don't like to pass judgement on any player until i have facts/proof but i'm willing to bet money on the fact that Korbi was the instigator, another reason why we should replace this guy, if Ragued is fit we can come up with enough players that can replace him to do a better job!

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Some videos of the NT and of France: http://www.actualitesmediastunisie.over-blog.co...

  • Skaander

Hi Rami, i have sent 32 invites to all tunisians i know in fb that enjoys soccer to join tunisia worldcup blog ;)

I don't know what korbi is doing in the NT, He would have been worst if it were not for his perseverance and fighting spirit.

You're the MAN! Thanks dude :)

  • Sami

Just like last year, Jemaa scores again :p

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

Korbi and Iffa are playing horrible, but i can see Korbi is trying more than usual, Nafti is playing surprisingly well.

    Wow, downhill from here??

  • NabilB

    Ribery taking it to Tunis.

Typical Tunis, good start, take lead and now hoping to counter.

With some more ambition we could exploit France and add to the lead.

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

Horrible horrible passes and challenges, we need some control on midfield and someone on the RB position, Darragi is invisible too and Msakni can do a lot better also.

  • NabilB

    HT Tunis 1-0 France.

Good start by Tunis but typical; reversion to parking the bus will back fire, France are there for the taking. As for Les Blues only Ribery with a the odd cameo from Malouda has bothered to show up. Gourcuff needs to step up. Yet again Gourcuff failed to convert his form with Bordeaux to the NT.

Really hope to see Chikaoui get a run in this game.

  • AchrafCABISTE

Lets see if Allagui, Chikha, and BenAchour can help the attack

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Yea, such a typically Tunisian first half but at least we got on the score sheet. Really wish we were up 2-0… We gotta press this team more and make them make mistakes like we were doing in the first 10 minutes. We can do this.

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

Iffa off, Ragued>Korbi, Allagui>Darragi , Msakni>Mouihbi, Balbouli>Kasraoui and maybe later on Chikhaoui for Mouihbi

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho
  • ThamerJ

i cant find a link that works! housm snipers channel isnt working, anyone have any other links?

  • NabilB

    That's more like it boys….

  • NabilB

    1-1 Gallas with the equalizer.

Krasaoui struggles with set pieces continues.

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

See Kasraoui still makes those crucial timing mistakes….dammit he's got to work on that.

  • NabilB

    Try this site.

    http://myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=77423&par...

Sopcast is by far the most reliable of any streams.

  • NabilB

    A nation rejoices….Welcome back Chika.

  • ThamerJ

    k…thanks

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

I thought Meriah was a RB?

  • NabilB

    FT 1-1

Fair result but yet again a conservative approach nullified any chance of a victory.

As for France…on the bright side Laurent Blanc era is just weeks away.

  • Skaander

I was wondering, why don't we keep Sami trabelsi as our coach? he doesn't have the experience but he seems to ahve an idea

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

    ++
    Ben Khalfallah

    +
    Mikari
    Haggui
    Nafti
    Jemaa
    Mouihbi
    Jmel

    -
    Iffa
    Kasraoui
    Darragi
    Msakni
    Korbi

Ragued played a bit but he seems like photocopy of Korbi.

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Quick question for my match report, who came on for Gourcuff?

  • NabilB

I think Diaby but not 100% sure.

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Thanks, dude. I looked it on L'Equipe. You were right ;)

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

By the way guys, it turns out Ben Saada wasn't called up because he's getting married (heard a TF1 announcer say it in the leadup to the match). Makes more sense now!

  • Abdullah_Al_Dub

Whoever finds the whole match, could you please post the link here!!?!?

Man, listening to Yassine talk is so great. What a soft spoken and modest gentleman. Guy speaks the truth.

  • JeanFrancoisRacinet

If your ISP has a subscription with ESPN3 you can watch it in Spanish on ESPN.com

  • JeanFrancoisRacinet

Great game Tunisian fans. It was nice to see some of the Tunisian fans on the French WCB for the Liveblog. Was a pretty uneventful game, I guess preWC friendlies are supposed to be that way. The buildup for the first goal was very nice.

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Raminho

Thanks Jean Francois! Sorry I couldn't join in the liveblog, was writing for Goal.com during the match but still checked in after to see what was said. Thanks for complimenting our opener :)

  • Skaander

I want do download the whole match, is there anywhere i can do it?
