Tunisia Defeats S. Africa, Advances in CAN
Defending tournament champion Tunisia looks to be in fine form after an impressive 2-0 victory over South Africa today in African Nations Cup play in Egypt.
The win sends the Carthage Eagles through to the quarterfinals.
Francileudo dos Santos got Tunisia on the board first with a goal in the 32nd minute. It was Santos’ 4th goal of the tournament as he appears to be battling it out with Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o to be the tournament’s top goalscorer.
Slim Benachour was anything but Slim knocking in the second goal in the 57th for coach Roger Lemerre’s team.
Tunisia has a reputation for not playing well away from home, but if the start of this tournament is any indication, the Carthage Eagles are ready to make some noise, both in Egypt and this summer in Germany. This is a very well coached and experienced team that plays together as a unit. With Santos on fire up front, they will be hard to beat.
