Top 20 Tunisian Ligue 1 Goals of 2007
Those who know African and Arab football are aware that Tunisia boasts one of the finest leagues in the region. Etoile du Sahel’s victory in the African Champions league and Club Sportive Sfaxien’s African Confederation title in 2007 added more weight to that argument… But if you don’t know much about Tunisian soccer and just want a little introduction to the kind of talent we have in our country, you will enjoy this. Don’t get me wrong, great goals can (and do) happen everywhere but some of these are just mind bending (especially #3 although Mouihbi’s anticipation on #1 is pure instinct and very well executed). Aficionados of our Ligue 1 will enjoy this too of course.
Top 20 Goals of 2007
Don’t let the talking at the beginning dissuade you from watching. You can skip it or just wait through it. It’s not long and the payoff is more than worth it! If you feel like it, drop a line and let everyone know which ones impressed you the most.
More Chikhaoui just because
Some bits of skill from yesterday’s game against Zambia. His misses are almost just as satisfying as his goals. Speaking of Chikhaoui, I don’t get why Lemerre gives him the #9 and insists on playing him as a striker. I mean yea he can score goals but the the guy has all the qualities of a #10. Everyone seems to have realized this except for our coach. Perhaps he’s doing it because we’ll be thin up front for the first two games with Chermiti suspended. Still though, I don’t think thats a good enough reason. Chikhaoui does best when he’s given freedom to roam and create. He’s good enough to play anywhere but as he showed yesterday, he’s capable of pulling the whole team along with him when we’re struggling… Coincidentally, his goal came when we put him behind Ben Dhifallah who replaced the injured Issam Jemaa, giving him a chance to take on defenders and blow by them at will.
Whoops Nutmeg! Come again

Holy fucking crap. Those were all nuts. Also, am I the only one who thinks the three analysts resemble Tunisian versions of Didier Deschamps, Guy Roux and Guy Lacombe (l-r)?

I thought 12 and 3 were the best.
Tunisia has placed 22nd in the world for the strongest league by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics for 2007. Not bad I guess. I think we should be ranked higher though. http://www.iffhs.de/?b6e28fa3002f71504e52d17f7370eff3702bb1c2bb11

Loving:
20 (Bergkamp?)
19 (fluid)
17 (the way he sells the keeper)
12 (unstoppable)
6 (does anyone else think he made that look a lot easier than it was?)
3 (which looks borderline impossible)
1 (just because)
Will any of those 20 guys be at the African Cup of Nations, playing for Tunisia or anyone else?

Bman, thanks for starting things off!
Sam, your comment had me cracking up dude! It didn’t cross my mind at the time but now that I take a second look I see what you mean
Hatim, thanks a lot for that link man. I hadn’t been to that site in a really long time and forgot it existed. I appreciate the reminder.
I like your selections Daryl. Amazingly only one of these players is in our list for Ghana. It’s #4 and he’s a defender. Seif Ghezal from Etoile, he played in the club world cup and he gets up the field for corners and free kicks because he’s pretty tall. I talked about him recently in one of my posts because he turned down a lucrative deal to Besiktas because they didn’t want to sign him if he was going to the African Cup. Instead he’ll be playing for Neuchatel in Switzerland. I guess the fact that they’re francophone helped too.
There’s also Henri Bienvenu from Bizerte who is a Cameroonian that just had a test with Olympique Marseille. He’s a goal scoring machine and he’s #15 on this countdown. Not sure if he made the Cameroon squad though. He’s only 19. Finally, he’s not on the list for us but there’s been a huge clamor to include him and that’s #1 on the countdown, Youssef Mouihbi. That goal (and others) actually earned him a deal with the club he scored it against, Club Africain. He’s in the expanded list and could replace someone if an injury occurs.
If Cape Verde had a team going to Ghana you can bet Gilson Silva #15 would be on their squad. We’ve given some thought to naturalizing him actually. He’s married to a Tunisian girl (a good looking one too from what I hear) and he converted to Islam. He’s the guy who nutmegged a Boca Juniors player in the Club World cup in the last minute…

So the short answer was only one but I couldn’t help but expound a little
