Tijani Belaid Makes History

September 21st, 2007 | By: Rami | 1 Comment »

Tijani Belaid who is signed to Internazionale and currently on loan at Slavia Prague scored the winner in the match against Steaua Bucharest a few days ago. By doing so, he becomes the first Tunisian to ever score in the UEFA Champions League. Our last notable champions league player was the one and only (and somehow still clubless) Hatem Trabelsi who played on a talented Ajax team. Playing an attacking role from right back, he never did manage to score in the prestigious competition… I was aware Belaid was playing but I didn’t know dude was going to show up and make history like that. Good to see the 20 year old Tunisian doing his thing in top flight competition. The goal wasn’t absolutely spectacular but it was a fine finish nevertheless. The fact that he dispatched it with the left maybe shows that he’s picked up a thing or two from training with El Emperador Adriano. Hopefully he hasn’t picked up on any of Adriano’s off field pass times. After this goal though, I’m guessing some partying wasn’t too far off the mark. Oh wait, it’s Ramadan! Nevermind ;)

Match highlights here. Goal below:

I still have high hopes for that kid. Let’s not forget that he’s the first Tunisian to score in the Champions League. [...]
