Nigeria’s List For Abuja Showdown Announced

August 21st, 2009 | By: Rami | 37 Comments »

So Shuaibu Amodu dropped his list. Notably absent are Yakubu and Martins who aren’t fit enough… It’s only 21 players but he will be adding two more on Monday. The Nigerian coach is giving himself until then to decide between Bolton’s Danny Shittu and FC Sion’s Obinna Nwaneri as well as between Club Brugge striker Joseph Akpala and Portsmouth’s John Utaka.

Goalkeepers: Austin Ejide (Bastia/FRA), Vincent Enyeama (Hapoel Tel Aviv/ISR), Dele Aiyenugba (Bnei-Yehuda/ISR)

Defenders: Onyekachi Apam (Nice/FRA), Elderson Echiejile (Rennes/FRA), Adefemi Olubayo (Boulogne/FRA), Taye Taiwo (Olympique Marseille/FRA) Joseph Yobo (Everton/ENG),Dele Adeleye (Sparta Rotterdam/NED), Oluwafemi Ajilore (Groningen/NED), Obinna Nwaneri (FC Sion/SWI)

Midfielders: John Mikel Obi (Chelsea/ENG), Sani Kaita (Rubin Kazan/RUS),Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev/UKR),Seyi Olofinjana (Hull City/ENG), Kalu Uche (Almeria/SPA

Strikers: Nwankwo Kanu (Portsmouth/ENG),Chinedu Ogbuke (Hoffenheim/GER) Osaze Odemwingie (Locomotiv Moscow/RUS), Obinna Nsofor (Inter Milan/ITA), Michael Eneramo (Esperance/TUN), Ikechukwu Uche (Real Zaragoza/SPA), John Utaka (Portsmouth/ENG)

Update

Portsmouth forward John Utaka and FC Sion defender Obinna Nwaneri have been added to the team at the expense of Joseph Akpala and Danny Shittu.

Meanwhile, our squad will be revealed by Humberto Coelho on Wednesday of next week (August 26). Another bit of news is that the team will train in Sousse prior to leaving for Abuja on a chartered flight. I guess that reception they got versus Cote d’Ivoire had something to do with that maybe? In any case, all that matters is that they prepare well, wherever that may be.

It’s already getting a bit tense isn’t it? I’ll get a preview up well in advance so we have time to really discuss things in depth before September 6th.

Still no video of Allagui’s goals, Ben Saada was invisible yesterday and i think that might be the reason he got subbed, Jemaa was sharp even though he got in in the 60th minute i saw some good passes from him too and a great build up play after falling back and defending great to see he allways give it a 100%.

A shame i missed Camus’s match because he’s in great form, but Genk has a real problem at the back.

Camus’s goal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiUuyVz_8iM & Highlights of another match http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yahLzt48z0&feature=related

I think Camus is playing very well, his passes are accurate (long range & at the centre of midfield he’s the conductor), what do you guys think does he deserve to get a chance on the NT?

yea, all i hear are good things about camus, i wouldnt mind if he was called up for our next match. also, i just realized that we wont have an in form right back for the game in nigeria. ifa and souissi wont have played a match for some time, boussaidi isnt playing for salzburg, ben zekri isnt playing for bastia. if i was the coach, id play: ghzeal felhi haggui mikari.

yea, i was thinking jemmali as well, but he has like…0 international experience. i mean, hes 34 an starting for grenoble, so he cant be that bad. if he was 5 years younger he would no doubt be the national teams starting right back.

So whats the deal with chikha, didnt he undergo another operation… still rehabilatating or training again? Hope there is a slight chance he gets some minutes today but i think that’s like hoping to win the lotto.

Bassem, he’ll announce his list tomorrow (Wednesday).

Abdullah, he’s still rehabbing the second surgery he had after that spell where he was playing about 15 to 25 mins a game. He could be back in late September according to some people posting on Tunisie foot who apparently heard Challandes said that from the FC Zurich forums… Hope he can return to his level, it’ll be a tragedy to lose such a talent.

I just hope Yassine will come back fully cleared of the pains he used to have and won’t have any problems with his knee again after he’s back, otherwise he wont have the chance to mature as a player and he’l have to settle for a mediocre club and that would be a shame as well because we all know what potential he has.

Don’t expect much from Chika this season and that is the best case scenario.

You look at players such as Eduardo, Rosicky, Saha etc if history is any indication it takes a solid year-18 months before any player can regain his form following an 18 month hiatus from real football.

Pray Cghika is back to his best ASAP but odds are 2011 is a more likely target and least we all hope it is.

If Jemmali is a bit too old then what about Ben Radhia or is he too unexperienced. And is Ben Frej injured or why did he play only 7 minutes in his only game which was almost 3 weeks ago. Or is his motivation still missing.

Nabil, I fear you may be right. I hope he’s ready by next summer at least if we qualify… One thing at a time though.

Sami, Berradhia never got his real shot at that position in the NT but I haven’t been following him closely so don’t know what kinda form he’s in. In any case, it’d be hard to imagine Coelho taking a chance like that. He’s basically made his decision in defense. It’s between Boussaidi and Souissi at right back and Jemal and Mikari at left.

LOL Coelho called up Sofian Chahed, i wanted to post about him yesterday but i didnt find him worhty engough after he opted to play with Germany’s youth team in 2003, apparantly he now has the option to still choose to play for us with the new fifa rules.

Well fair enough, but i still find it hard to swallow, he at least owes us an explanation.

He just transferred to Hannover after 6 years playing for Hertha, what do you guys think about this?

The list is veeerrrry unexpected, some real surprises guys

Kasraoui Hamdi – Aymen Mathlouthi – khaloufi Jacem – Abdelnour Aymen – sami Allegui – fehid Ben Khalfallah – chawki Ben Sâada- Sofien chahed – Ammar Jmal – Oussema Darragi- zouhair Dhaouadi – Radhouène Felhi – Seïf Ghzel – Karim Haggui – Chedi Hammami – Bilel Iffa – Issam Jomâa – Khaled Korbi – Yassine Mikari – Haythem Mrabet – Houcine Ragued – Khaled Souissi – Nebil Taider – Ali Zitouni.

whats going on. I just returned from my vaccation in Tunis.
Sofien Chahed !! there are two sofien chaheds in Hannover, a very young one 19 years old and the one who said before no to Tunisia and after not getting any attention from the German Trainer he said he is willing to play for Tunisia. By the way this one didnt make a normal move from Berlin to Hannover. he actually was thrown out from Berlin and stayed without contract. I really dont understand what he can add to our national team??
But as it is always in Tunisia not everything has to be understood.
