Nigeria Feeling Cocky Ahead of Tunisia Showdown

February 2nd, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 1 Comment »

Nigeria is a good football team, but judging from the amount of noise its players and press make you would think the Super Eagles were Brazil or something. Lest anyone need to remind our friends in Nigeria, the team didn’t make the World Cup and it isn’t going to win the African Nations Cup either.

Listen to what Nigerian boss Austin Eguavoen has to say:

“It’s pay back time for Tunisia. They robbed us of the trophy two years ago as hosts. Port Said is a neutral ground. In fact, it has become our home. We are waiting for them.”

“Tunisia is a good side, no doubt, but we are set to take them on as we have never done before. They are tactically and technically a balance team but we can’t afford to lose to them. If we lose, then we are on the way back to Nigeria. Our target is the final and the trophy and I can’t see how Tunisia will stop us at this stage.”

Well, I can see how Tunisia will stop you. They will beat you on the pitch like they did two years ago and then the only noise we will hear from Nigeria is that of its press whining about how unfair the game was.

My prediction: Tunisia 3 Nigeria 1

Having seen my Ghana face both recently, I rate the Carthage Eagles the mightier fowl. Nigeria is big on talk but weak in skill due to their significant injury issues.

Two difference makers- can Okocha finally break into playing form and lead a revival? Is the big boot of Tayo Taiwe that slew Ghana to be unleashed on Tunisia? If either occurs the outcome could be different.

But I see 2-0.
