More Vague News from Med Tournament

According to Tunisie-Foot and Tunisie Afrique Presse, our U19 team was eliminated from the tournament by losing to Egypt on the score of 1-0. Unfortunately there isn’t much more to say than that. It isn’t clear who scored, who played, how we played etc. Not much fodder for discussion really. What I will say is that the lack of details has made it hard to get really attached to this tournament. Nothing like the U17 World Cup where much of the country was entranced by our stylish performances. That’s not too surprising though, this one wasn’t nearly as high profile. Maybe the next edition will be televised or at least more talked about. Hopefully the players have gained more from this experience than we have…

Here were the final group standings:

1- Libya 6 pts
2- Egypt 5 pts
3- Tunisia 4 pts
4- Spain 3 pts

And here’s a recap of our results:

Tunisia v Spain: 1-1 (3-4 penalties)
Tunisia v Libya: 2-0
Tunisia v Egypt: 0-1

Meanwhile, in the final, Libya beat Algeria 1-0. Congratulations to Libya on taking home the trophy. Too bad we couldn’t get past Egypt in our last game. If we had gotten three points we probably could have made it a very interesting final against the Algerians. Plus I always find it interesting when a team that we’ve beaten (Libya) makes it to the final and wins it. Always makes you feel like you could have done exactly the same or better. Still though, I have no frame of reference. Didn’t see any of the games and barely know how everything went down. So let’s end this chapter and delve into topics where we can speak with authority on the subject… One more thing though, it appears that I wasn’t the only one that was confused about whether its U20’s or U19’s.
