Med Tournament Update
As has been noted in the comments for the previous post, Tunisia’s U19 team tied Spain in its first game on the score of 1-1. Unfortunately there aren’t many more details than that in terms of the scoreline. TAP, the only news agency that seems to be covering this tournament didn’t even to bother to let readers know who scored and when. All we know is that even though it’s the group stages, the game went to penalties which we lost 3-4. Only the teams in first place of the two respective groups will go to the final so they’re not using goal difference to settle eventual tie breaker situations. In its second game, Tunisia beat its Libyan neighbor by the score of 2-0 while Spain tied Egypt 0-0 and lost on penalties (4-5). This is a favorable result for us as it puts us in first place of the group and in control of our own fate. Its quite simple, beat Egypt tomorrow and we’ll be in the final to face whoever comes out of the group that includes Italy, Algeria, San Marino, and Albania. This whole tournament has a strange setup. Going straight to final out of the group stages just seems weird but I guess it’s meant to be a short trip or something. Whatever the case, it’d be nice to win it anyway. Here are the standings as of right now:
1. Tunisia 4
2. Libya 3
3. Spain 3
4. Egypt 2
I’m honestly slightly confused by this table. Because if we got a point for our game against Spain and three for our win against Libya then how does Spain have three points? Wouldn’t they only have two since they tied us and then tied Egypt? That tally is working off the assumption that the PK’s have no bearing on the point system and only on tie break situations… It’s times like this when I wish I could be paid to go watch these games in person (or at least have a reliable news source to count on)… Let’s hope for a good result against Egypt in our final game (AND pray for some highlights to the highlight gods). Knowing the technical skill of some of these kids, I’d love to see the goals and the moves they’re pulling. Wishful thinking perhaps
Maybe I need this to happen to me for me to fall back to reality (Forgive me but I really needed an excuse to use this GIF in a post eventually):

How are you caculating these point totals?
Tunisia tied but lost in penalty kicks and won a game (so did they get one pt fromt he spain game?)
While Spain won a tiebreaker with tunisia and lost another game.
Basically when you loose a penalty shootout , do you get a point or not? Because if you do not get a point Tunisia would only have 3 pts total. And if you do get a point, then Spains point total should be 1.
A bit confused on the trules behind the points total?

I’m with you buddy. Thats what I was referring to in the post. The standings I have up there are from the TAP article that is linked. I honestly don’t understand how its being done. Math was never my forte but even I know that something isn’t right… I guess we’ll just have to wait till friday or saturday to know whether we made it to the final or not… sorry i don’t have a better answer but i’m just as confused as you are at this point.
