June Qualifiers Prep
We hit a little lull there in terms of national team news but there’s a few updates worthy of mention that have surfaced since the last post. A few (or all) of these might not be breaking news to some of you but consider it useful for archival purposes (and a chance to get some fresh comments):
- On May 21st, Humberto Coelho will announce the players being called up for our friendly against Sudan which will be played on May 27th. Two interesting/annoying things to note about this matchup without getting too “previewey” are the following: 1. It’s being played on the same day as the European Champions League final (oops) 2. The vast majority of our foreign based players could very well miss out since they have club obligations around this time.
Not sure if this was taken into consideration by the FTF… Far from an ideal situation but we’ll see how this develops.
- May 28th has been announced as the date our coach will announce the list of players he is calling up for our two June qualifiers versus Mozambique (June 6th) and Nigeria (June 20th). Kickoff times are 6:00 pm for Mozambique and 7:10 pm for Nigeria (both at Rades).
- The FTF has settled on Lisbon, Portugal as the location of our eight day training camp from the 11th to the 18th of June to prepare for our home qualifier versus the Super Eagles. No coincidence given Coelho’s nationality but can’t blame him for wanting some home cooking right? Apparently we’re trying to book Kuwait for a friendly on the 17th while we’re there. Debatable choice of opposition to say the least but I guess we want our strikers to get a lot of target practice…
- According to FIFA we’ve booked Cote d’Ivoire for a friendly on the 12th of August to prep for our trip to Nigeria where we’ll play on the 5th of September. I had heard this was in the works but this one still needs to be confirmed by Tunisian media as FIFA has been wrong before (which is odd considering they’re technically supposed to be the authority on these types of things).
- In case you forgot, we’re hosting France on November 11th. That’s before our last qualifier against Mozambique on the 14th of that same month. Hopefully we’ll have sealed qualification to South Africa before then!
What you guys think of all this?

Rami, this one deserves an article on goal.com so it will get his name out there.

Rami I suggest that you write your Chikhaoui goal.com article after his next match. He will undoubtedly be a starter especially that only 3 matches remain in the season. I think that he’ll play even better than today.
I’ll post Galbi’s goal and Chikhaoui’s assist and goal as soon as they’re available.

Hi again , in my opinion , the date for Sudan’s friendly is completely non-suitable for a lot reasons u mentioned the two important ones of them , i really doubt that post of us will pay a big attention to this game and neglect that day’s Clash OF The Titans ( Barca Vs Man Un) unless they will play the friendly game in one of Tunisia cities except that of the capital! and it has to be played in the morning too if they wish sseing some people in the satdium , another thing is that if you won t have your foreign based players ( who we all knwo that their posts are undiscussed in the national team) i can t see the point of playing this game although it s against a good team.i wished that reschedule it for Lisbon’s camp that’ll be better don t cha y’all think?!!!!!

I’m with you ca-fanatic, we lose a lot of value by having it on that date. you would think that they would realize that but alas they’ve made even stranger decisions than this in the past. it’s just weird. i really wish they would play a game outside of tunis like Coelho said when he first came. people around the country are dying to support their national team but don’t have the means to get the stadiums in the capital. it’s time for a change…

Hi Rami , enough said , we re getting used here to all kind of weired decisions coming “Straight outta of Cite Sportive” , but they don t realize maybe that we just want the best for our national team and a couple of explanations won t be that bad ,would they? don t think so.
