Injuries, recoveries, and solutions

All of us are concerned about the Injury to Francuiledo Dos Santos’ shin. Doctors confirmed today that he is recovering well and should be healthy in time for the second match against Spain. I think if this is indeed true and Tunisia play without him and still defeat Saudi Arabia, that will make the team more confident because other players will have to contribute more and score goals.

Defenders Alaeddine Yahia and Mehdi Meriah are also experiencing Injurys. Yahia pulled a muscle in training and doctors have advised 4 days of rest. Meriahs left leg injury is more serious and there is even talk of asking FIFA to replace him altogether. Rumor is it could be for a Tunisian striker and fan favorite Haykel Guimemdia(I will never spell that the same way twice).
Haykel Guimamdia

So its interesting, replace left back Meriah, with striker Guimemdia possibly to compensate for lack of Dos Santos. Having Guimemdia and Jaziri run around as strikers would be like being attacked by a swarm of misquitos, they are fast, dribble well, and are quite aggressive. I like Haykel. I saw a match with Tunisia and Egypt about 6 months ago where he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory for Tunisia.

Also if this is true, and we are loosing a left back, it makes us weak in that position so my guess is Lemerre will be employing David Jemmali at left back as he did against the select Bavarian side last week.

The rule to my knowledge is in the case of a serious injury, you can ask FIFA to replace an injured player as long as you have not yet played your first match. Correct me if I am wrong about any of these and please add commentary.

Haykel Guemamdia (I think thats the correct spelling) is one player that I was sad to see miss out on a chance to go to Germany. He scored some important goals for us in qualifying and did an excellent job at the confederations cup last year (especially against Argentina where he got us two penalties and converted one of them). He’s a good striker and without Santos we could definitely use him. I hope the rules allow for him to be called up as long as he’s been staying fit.

I’m watching Gol TV and they just said Guemamdia replaced Meriah in the squad. Looks like its official. It’s too bad for Meriah but I think that its the right move. Guemamdia deserves to be on this team.

Wow, its seems like all we need is Benachour and everyone will be happy. What do you think of having Santos, Jaziri, Guememdia, and Ben Sadaa. How do you rank them

Looks like Gol TV wasn’t misinformed. Just read this on the bbc. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/tunisia/5070920.stm

I wonder if this means Lemerre isn’t quite ready to rely on Chikhaoui. Meanwhile, on Tunisia’s official FIFA team page, it says that Santos is recovering well and will likely return to action when Tunisia plays Spain. Let’s hope thats true.
