Guinea 3 Tunisia 0
The Carthage Eagles were thoroughly beaten today in African Nations Cup action, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Guinea.
Both sides had already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals so this game was all about positioning. With the win, Guinea wins the group and gets to stay in Alexandria for the next round. The loss sends Tunisia to Port Said.
Coach Roger Lemerre played a hodgepodge of a lineup, electing to keep out some of his top players including leading goal score Dos Santos. The result was not pretty for Tunisia which lost the game and its composure at the end, seeing Issam Mardassi sent off with a red card.
There is no reason for Tunisia fans to panic after this one, however. The tournament holders are still one of the teams to beat and today’s match was merely an aberration.
