Eneramo a Super Eagle After All?

The Michael Eneramo debate took on a new dimension today as the leading scorer of the Tunisian league (13 goals in 15 games) has been called up to represent Nigeria when they face off against Jamaica on the 11th of February. With Obafemi Martins and Yakubu both out for a considerable amount of time, its no wonder that the Super Eagles are calling on some untested talent to shore up their squad.

The selection does beg the question of whether or not the Nigerian Federation went ahead with this simply to rule out the possibility of him ever playing under our colors. It’s not certain but definitely within the realm of possibility. Our failure to convince Hatem Ben Arfa notwithstanding, we’ve become pretty good at this ourselves. It’ll be interesting to see how Eneramo reacts to this after assuring the Tunisian public that he would accept a call up from the FTF as soon as he received it.

Meanwhile, if he accepts (which I expect he will) and Nigeria’s injury woes at striker continue to mount, our boys could very well be facing Michael in our crucial home and away qualifiers against the West African outfit. Will this be an advantage or a disadvantage? On one hand, Eneramo knows our style of play, mentality, language, and players. On the other, we know his strengths and weaknesses.

Whatever the case, it definitely adds to the storyline. Speaking of Eneramo, check out this nifty move he pulled against Hammam Sousse.

Amine Chermiti seems well and truly liberated by his first goal for Hertha as our youngster added another one in a friendly versus Freibourg. His was the only goal for Hertha on the day as they ended up tying 1-1 off his equalizer. Let’s hope this continues!

  • Rachid

Hey Rami, did you have to pick the play that saw CA’s hopes fade in the Tunisian Cup? That was the case, if I recall right. I must say I’m not too impressed with Michael’s type of play; it’s purely physical. He uses his hands way too much and ata times I feel like he’s going to choke someone. I saw that happen to many poor defenders, especially Etoile’s Felhi. I’m surprised he does not get called up on it! Anyway, we should not seek to qualify by granting citizenship to a Nigerian player. It does not look right. I believe we have sufficient talent that we should encourage to step up to the plate!

  • Achraf

I agree Rachid, I would rather him play for nigeria. The Fifa Rankings are out today and Tunisia is 45th up 1 from last month while Nigeria is 17th. Mozambique is 98th and kenya is 68 I believe. Keep up the good work Chermiti!!!

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Rami

Yea thats the play alright! Further proof of my continued attempts to keep my blogging as impartial as possible ;) even though it was against my boys, his chest control n shot were very nice! Agree with u on not selecting him but purely for the reason that we got our own kids to rely on and develop.

  • thamer

i doubt the nigerian federation woudl call him up simpyl to prevent him from playing for us, i think he deserves a call up to their team and its just a bonus that he wont be playing for us. in any case, i dont want him playing for us anyway, and its not like were mising out on him with allagui and chermiti up front.

  • Abdullah

I still have the feeling we miss a world class striker, Chermiti could be one some day, Allagui also has potential but unlike our midfield and defence we dont have players wich we can rely on a 100%.

But in any case i think it might be for the best if Eneramo doesnt play for us, especially since he never really was a Tunisian citizen(if that was the case then i’d probably approve it).

Also hope all players are fit enough to play 90 minutes against Holland, because almost every time we play against a good team we tend to start good but a lack of concentration and fitness causes us to give away points.

And let’s not forget how good Holland is doing :P

  • Abdullah

Also rami have you read anything about Haggui, i know his surgery was successful…but is he playing again?

  • Abdullah
  • Achraf

Good News today everyone for our national team. Karime Haggui is back to his team and participated in his first match in a friendly in a long time and played very well. Very happy to hear this because we will need him.

  • Abdullah

    they won 6-0 :D

  • Rachid

Tunisia, the only Arab country to win during the second day of the Handball WorldCup in Croatia!

  • thamer

it wasnt against strong competition, if they can beat russia, germany or poland, then we can celebrate

  • Yassine

    Germany 26-24 Tunisia
Painful to watch, especially when Tunisia lead 6-1 in the first 10 minutes.

  • Abdullah

Let’s hope they do better against Russia :)

  • Skander

I live in a place where there’s a lot of trees (a small forest) haha and i can only watch tv7 tunis in astra, neither nilesat or hotbird?

Do anyone of you know if there’s a livestream on the game today?

  • Skander

so please can anyone post a link, myp2p works but the picture goes off after a while..

  • Rachid

Thamer, You did not think Macedonia was strong competition, but they just beat Poland. I’m hopeful about our chances. No matter what happens, though, Tunisia can be considered to have same qualities as advanced, European teams! The numbers strongly suggest that. Let’s hope one day we can say the same thing about their football counterparts!

  • Yassine

Skander DSF will certainly air the game

  • thamer

poland had a bad game against macedonia just like germany had a bad game against us. i agree with you that tunisia can give top european a run for their money, but tunisia losing to the world champions by two goals was an accident and isnt likely to happen again. i hope im wrong, but i just prefer not to get my hopes up.

  • Skander

thanks yassine, can anyone tell me where Sahbi Ben Aziza is?, have he quit playing hanball, cause he didn’t play in 2007 and not now either???

    Thanks

  • Skander

And is it the top 3 teams of the group that qualifies for the next round?

  • Yassine

Yes the top 3 teams of each group qualify. Qualifying became more difficult after yesterday’s loss but it’s still possible.
I don’t know if ben Aziza has quit playing but he isn’t included in the team

  • tounsi

    stop talking about handball please:D

    i have a question..who can tell me about chikhaoui’s knee injury ?
is he going to make it on time for the match against Holland??
even if he does..i dont think he’ll be that good as we would expact him to be..but thats normal

  • thamer

he wont be picked, i can tell you that much.

  • Yassine

Thamer why are you so sure that Chikhaoui won’t be called up for the Holland freindly?

  • tounsi

yeah why are u so sure?? even if he plays only 30 minutes that’s no problem:)

  • http://tunisia.worldcupblog.org Rami

I’m leaning with Thamer on this one. I haven’t seen him play any part in any competitive match yet besides the training with his team. Some are even saying he got reinjured (just rumors so don’t freak out… yet) The match is in 3 weeks and if he doesn’t play in a real game from here on out then I seriously doubt he’d be taking part in such an important friendly. As much as I love Chikhaoui, I only want him back if he’s 100 percent and ready to go all out for us. Coelho is all for competitive players, unfortunately for us Chikhaoui does not belong in that category right now. Inshallah he returns to full health in due time.

  • Skander

inchallah he does, beside that, anyone got a working link for Tunisia – Poland livestream.

  • thamer

what rami said, plus, zurich isnt going to allow him to play a friendly for tunisia when he they wont even let him play a friendly for their own team.

  • Abdullah
  • Achraf

Here is who I think Coelho will call up
F- Allagui, chermiti, jemaa, essifi, santos
M- Belaid, Khallfallah, Ragued, Ben Yahia, Ben Saada, Darragi, Camus
D- Ben Freg, Boussaidi, Ghzal, Haggui, Mikari, Felhi, Ifa, Hammami
    G- Mathlouthi, Khalloufi, Bejaoui

  • Achraf

oh yea I forgot Namouchi, I would replace him with Darragi.
