Draws for African Champions League and Confederations Cup
One of the best things about football/soccer is that as soon as one competition ends, a new one begins. It works out well for the fans and badly for those vying to use our tv’s to watch something other than our favorite sport. It reminds me of the fights over the remote control with my dad that took place a lot when my priorities were cartoons. The good ole days when, I (actually the whole family) gave him a hard time over his soccer madness. Only now do I truly understand and appreciate his dilemma! Anyhow, in this case its two of the same competitions that just ended that will be restarting in a matter of months. Everyone gets a fresh start and clubs from all over Africa will attempt to dethrone the newly crowned Champions League and Confed Cup champions from our very own Tunisia. Etoile and CSS will be joined by Club Africain (the team I’ve supported since childhood-in Champions league) and Esperance (our bitter rivals and former giants of Tunisian football who are going through a rebuilding period at the moment- in the Confed Cup).
Besides the current champions, the two clubs from the capital will have their say in these two competitions. Even though I’m obliged to not like them due to my Club Africain affiliation, I do wish Esperance (or Taraji) well in the Confed Cup. They’ll be representing Tunisia and that’s all that matters. Some would consider those words sacrilege but as the blogger for the Tunisian national team I need to stay somewhat objective in these matters. Plus our win in the derby allows me to not be so pissed at them (although memories of them dominating the league for almost my entire life are hard to overlook). Club Africain narrowly missed out on last year’s domestic title and are currently trailing ESS once more. Things will be close this year again I think. For the complete draws check here for the Champions League and here for the Confederation Cup.
Is another all Tunisian African SuperCup on the cards? I certainly hope so!
