Coelho’s 23 For Cote d’Ivoire

August 4th, 2009 | By: Rami | 35 Comments »

The list dropped today somewhat unexpectedly (thought it was coming out tomorrow) and the biggest story is Nabil Taider’s callup as well as the return of Chaouki Ben Saada. Saihi is back too after an extended absence due to a pretty serious knee injury. Hopefully he can blast another one like he did against Holland.

I’m very interested in seeing how Taider fits in, I’m not that familiar with him but I know we tried to get him to play for us before the 2006 World Cup and FIFA ruled it out.

Meanwhile, Coelho has dropped both Chermiti, Belaid, and Jaidi. The first two for insufficient competition apparently and the last because he hasn’t found a club yet.

Can’t say I’m not surprised about the Chermiti omission, I know he hasn’t played in every single game but seems like if we’re going to need him in Abuja (which I think we will) then why not bring him along and help him get more time on the pitch? Unless there’s an injury involved this doesn’t really make sense to me.

Goalkeepers: Hamdi Kasraoui, Jassem Khalloufi, Aymen Mathlouthi

Defenders: Khaled Souissi, Yamen Ben Zekri, Radhouène Felhi, Seif Ghzel, Karim Haggui, Bilel Iffa, Khalil Chammem, Yassine Mikari, Ammar Jemal

Midfielders: Chaouki Ben Saada, Khaled Korbi, Wissem Ben Yahia, Chadi Hammami, Fahid Ben Khalfallah, Houcine Ragued, Jamel Saïhi, Nabil Taïder, Oussama Darragi

Strikers
: Issam Jemaa, Sami Allagui, Mohamed Ali Ghariani, Ali Zitouni

What do you think? Anyone you really wanted to see called up that didn’t make it?

Update

We may not witness the return of Jamel Saihi after all as he will be missing the first match of the season against PSG on Saturday with an ankle sprain. Not sure if he’ll be ready for our match, he’s going to undergo a scan to determine how much time he needs to rest. Either way, its not good news…

Update 2.0

Jamel Saihi will in fact miss the friendly in Sousse but Aymen Mathlouthi and Ammar Jemal have been called up after Etoile decided to charter a private plane for their Champions League match versus Heartlands in Nigeria. The change in the departure date thanks to the change allows for both of them to be at Humberto Coelho’s disposal.

Aimen Belaid has come to the eredivisie http://www.brabantsdagblad.nl/sport/rkc/5279337/RKC-Waalwijk-begroet-Vitor-Pita-en-Belaid.ece

surely he’ll get enough playing time & he will get noticed fast here by other clubs like in the eredivisie.

The absence of Chermiti or Nouioui doesn’t bother me at all, we still have Jemaa (our topscorer). And Zitouni can also bring an effort to the team.

I am happy with the return of Ben Saada, that compense the absence of Chikhoaui. However I’m dissapointed to not see Camus in the list, who has made a perfect debute at RC Genk.

Defence is quiet solid, not mutch to say about.

If you think about the 3 goals they conceded at the end there maybe its good Kasraoui didn’t play! Also, Jemma got owned by Gourcuff on the 2-1 goal. Totally tripped him up. So it was a mixed bag even if the goal is nice.

Happy for Ben Saada.

The 3rd goal was an obvious mistake of dermont i think it was his second mistake leading to a goal, they all ran to one position at the bordeax’s 3rd.

I saw the match of Jemaa yesterday, and he was sub. in the 60th minute and wasn’t happy about it, the commentator of sport1 also mentioned that there was a friction between him and the coach, don’t know if it is a rumor or not but there’s more to the sub. The commentator also mentiond that he liked Jemaa as player of the match, that was realy nice to hear. So if some knows whats going on or whats happening? Maby an upcoming transfer?

I don’t really know much about him myself but saw people on Tunisie Foot openly wondering about him before. Pretty sure he is actually of Tunisian descent. Not sure of much else though. If I find anything out I’ll let you know. Also, Chermiti might be loaned out. So annoying.

I knew that was coming, but why not stay in Europe, if he’s going to an arab country he might as well come back to ESS, actually now i think about it it might not be a bad idea to loan him to ESS, but its ridiculous to loan him to another arab country.

I agree, I hope they loan him to European team. Why not the Eredivisie even? At least there they don’t care how young you are…

yea, i agree. he should be loaned out, but to like a dutch team where he’ll be sure to start. if they loan him to an arab club he wont get any better and eventually he’ll be forgotten about. im also hoping benachour gets signed by malaga, all signs show that the coach really likes him and so do the fans. if he can get a starting spot in the team, it would be a big boost for us going into the world cup (inchallah)
