Chikhaoui Operated On… Again

Wish I didn’t have to write this but weeks ago I read on a Tunisian newspaper (I believe Assabah Edit: It was Assahafa) that there was a chance Yassine Chikhaoui wasn’t completely recovered from his injury and that his comeback was being hampered by continuing pain in his knee.

I was concerned and posted the information on Tunisie-Foot asking if anyone knew anything more and the overwhelming response was “wait and see” because we all know that the standards of Tunisian journalism are (sadly) not that high.

Well, it looks like the person who wrote that article was onto something as today I woke up and to my great dismay I had two articles waiting for me in my inbox from google alerts with the titles “Neur Eingriff bei Chikhaoui” and “Yassine Chikhaoui Wird Operiert.” My German isn’t really up to snuff but I could tell this wasn’t good news (Neur Eingriff just doesn’t sound good and Operiert is a dead give-away).

So yea, that’s the preface to this story. More importantly is the news itself. During Chikhaoui’s comeback apparently the Barcelona doctors addressed the pain with a “newly developed form of treatment with injections from a tank” (whatever that means) but the inflammation in his knee wasn’t reduced. So he could basically play a maximum of thirty minutes without pain which is why we never saw him play for an entire half in those games he returned for to help Zurich seal the Swiss Championship.

What does this mean for Chikha? You can’t say its not another setback because it is but according to the article he’ll begin training again in a “few weeks” and “is expected to be operational again.” There’s no getting around it, this is disappointing news no matter how you cut it but at least there’s no mention to “career threatening” in there.

For now all we can do is sit and hope for the best. We waited 420 days to see him play again, we can wait more till he’s fully recovered inshallah.

Rabbi yeshfik Yassine. A whole nation awaits you. Hopefully the national team will qualify for the World Cup without you and you’ll be healthy in time to fulfill a dream of many a Tunisian: Oussemma Darragi and Yassine Chikhaoui in Carthage Eagles jerseys playing on the same field. I know they technically play the same position but these two guys could change our history forever so I think we could make some changes.

But first things first, everyone put your collective mental energy together to have him completely heal and overcome this terrible knee problem that has already robbed him of so much time…

Update

It’s been brought to my attention by someone on TF that I might be overreacting. I’m not sure if I am but if you think so definitely let me know. Perhaps I’m letting my own disappointment that he’s not fully over the patella tendon injury get in the way of the writing…

I didn’t believe that El Chourouk article as well but your post confirmed it. These news ruined my day. I just got my tickets for the Nigeria game so I was excited.
Rami I actually had a dream where Chikhaoui and Darragi play together with the NT.

Rami, i don’t think you’re overreacting, you’re always open, neutral and of course give your own opinions.

by the way, i saw Germany – Spain in u21 european championschips in Sweden yesterday and both Khedira and Ben Hatira played.

Thanks Skander, I think we can forget about Khedira and Ben Hatira. They don’t seem to be interested in us but I guess that new FIFA ruling still gives them a chance for later. I think we’re fine without them but it’s true that more talent never hurts, especially with the way injuries go.

Yassine, thanks man I’ll update the post with that info :) It ruined my day too and then I was told I was making too big a deal of it so I started second guessing myself. Glad you’d going to see Nigeria, inshallah mabrouk 3lina ;) As for your dream, I’m sure it was beautiful!

Well at least Chikhaoui has a lot of time to get ready before the season starts and before the Nigeria game to get ready, but I doubt he will play against Nigeria in September, he needs to play a friendly first.

Rami, Do you know if the Tunisia-Ivory Coast friendly confirmed for August?

And i was listening to mosaique fm and heard that Ali Zitouni is in great form. So I think that he might start with Alagui up top and chermiti come in the second half. It was on the sport express 14h for today

There are serious rumors that Sami Allagui could sign a contract with Nurenburg who made it to Bundesligue1. This would be a right place for Allagui he is already familiar with Mnari and other former teammates. He said that it is his dream to play in the first division ahead of WC2010.

Also, Dijon is interested in Wissem Bekri the Esperance left back. I thought he played very well in the 2008 african nations cup but dont know what happened to him since. He would be a great back up for Mikari!!

I like the idea that Ghzal will start in place of Jaidi, I think that Ghzal is faster then Jaidi and younger. Hopefully who will show enough to get his spot permanently.

check out the preview of the game on goal.com. clearly biased…if he had any sense he would have said 1-1, but these nigerians are so arrogant that they think theyre better than everyone. they couldnt even beat mozambique in mozambique and theyre going to go to rades and win? nonsense

I know Thamer, it’s unbelievable. Chaouki Ben Saada is supposedly the player to watch too… He’s not even in the team!
