Chermiti’s Star Continues to Rise, Etoile Continues to Shine

February 2nd, 2008 | By: Rami | 2 Comments »

ChermitigoalCongratulations are in order for our young international Mohammed Amine Chermiti and his Club team Etoile Sportive du Sahel who took the awards for Best Player in Inter-Club Competitions and Best African Club side at the CAF awards ceremony which took place in Togo. While he wasn’t the only player who performed admirably during the run to the Champions League Trophy, Chermiti’s eight goals were pivotal in securing the title and none were bigger than his strike in the heart of Cairo during the second leg of the final. On so many levels this has been a huge year for Chermiti, who is revealing himself to the world as one of the finest young strikers around.

He earned his first international cap during our African qualifiers and repaid Lemerre’s faith by scoring in his first outing under the red and white strip of our country. Then he dominated the Champions League and used the ensuing Club World Cup in Japan as his personal coming out party with dazzling performances that turned the heads of scouts and fans alike. We are convinced that the best is yet to come for this incredible talent. We also want to take this opportunity to applaud his maturity and character in preferring to stay in Tamale with his team rather than go all the way to Togo and maybe lose some concentration and training time. Priorities priorities…

Meanwhile his team, Etoile quenched the the thirst for the Champions League title after a 13 year wait for it to return to Tunisian shores. It was the only missing trophy in the “palmares” of the club and they finally got it, and deservedly so. Bravo to the team that represents the whole Sahel region and not just the beautiful town of Sousse. They honored our country and we hope that they, along with our other clubs, continue to put in marvelous performances on the continental and world level. Congratulations also go to Freddy Kanoute who collected the African Player of the Year award, Cote D’Ivoire which was voted best African Team, and Clifford Mulenga who was voted Young African Player of the Year.

Great piece, Rami. I am hoping Chermiti will “explode” duing the game against Cameroon and really distinguish himself again. His determination and burning desire to win are unmatched! I’m starting to think we have a great team that may be able to go far in this tournament. We certainly have every reason to be positive! Incha’allah Marbouha.

Thanks Rachid. By the looks of it he’ll be used as an option off the bench. Kind of disappointing but as I say in the preview I kind of expected it given he’s only got one game under his belt. The rationale is that you bring him on in the second half when the defenders are already tired and weary and then he runs circles around them. It’s a gamble to say the least but Santos can still score goals… As you said Inchallah Marbouha!
