Chermiti Starting To Make His Mark

Finally! Amine Chermiti made it into Hertha Berlin’s match versus Werder Bremen and got about 25 minutes of playing time. When he came in the score was 1-0 in Weder’s favor and when the match was done his team had reversed the scoreline to 2-1.

What did Chermiti do you ask? When he first came in his touch let him down a few times but the way he reacted made it clear that he was not going to let that slow him down.

He had that hungry/confident look on his face and was making himself available for his teammates and using that incredible pace to pressure when Werder had the ball.

After Simunic scored the equalizer, he hit the post on a header where he had to move backwards to direct it towards goal but unfortunately the post denied him. He was left holding his head in frustration and so was I. Same exact expression actually!

However, instead of getting down on himself he made a crucial steal (which may have been a bit of a foul but I need to rewatch it) and found Raffael who scored a sublime goal to give Hertha the crucial win which keeps them in the running for a Champions League place. On the next few possessions Chermiti pulled off a midair heel pass to a team-mate and also had the last chance of the game but his header was saved.

He’s gone a long way towards convincing coach Lucien Favre and Hertha fans that he should gain more playing time from now on. Building on this positive performance will be important for him finally finding a place in the team. He’s obviously part of their plans and with Voronin likely to leave next year I think that next season will be the one he really shines. There should be a special on him today on Dimanche Sport too so its quite fitting he’s back in action and doing so well!

Click here to see his steal and assist. You have to press on “2-1″ in the video to bring it up.

Update

I’ve embedded the highlights, here is the download link for Tunisia based viewers with no access to YouTube. And yea, there was a foul on the play that brought the second goal but the score stands!

Click here to download the 25 minute period that Chermiti played for.

This article suggests that Amine could start the next game. When asked about Chermiti’s game, Lucien Favre said: “It was not easy for him, he has not played long. Amines has been well-introduced…” then when he was asked if the youngster could start the next game he responded by saying “why not?”

Update 2.0

Another article from the German press. Favre calls Chermiti Hertha’s “man of the future.”

In Other News

Seif Ghezal scored a goal for Young Boys today. Check the highlights here.

i think giving chermiti 2 mins is an insult, talking about jong prospects adn how he is the future.
Give him the damn chance to prove himself!

favre doesnt need to fix what isnt broken. if he can win games without chermiti, then thats what he’ll do. and chermiti wasnt likely to get the chance to prove himself in a big game away to a good team. he’ll get more time against lesser teams, either if hertha is winning big, or needs a late goal.

I know his tactics, but it still is insulting to give a player 2 mins, what was he supposed to do in those 2 mins.
I think just gave him those 2mins because he didnt want him to feel left out, but anyone can see trough such an act.

I was really disappointed for Chermiti but he’s gonna be fine if he just keeps a good attitude and doesn’t let things like this derail him. He looked good in the little time he got, earning two free kicks and looking fast as usual. I think we’ll see him in the list for the upcoming qualifiers.

I was dissapointed to, I think he might be getting more time next season because Andrej Voronin will be back with his regular club. And i also think he will definitly be in the list for future qualifiers. We are starting to have mor great forwards for Tunisia and it will get challenging for Coelho to choose the starting Forwards. The Forwards are Chermiti, Allagui, Jemaa, Lassad, Zitouni, Ghariani, Jabari, are all great.

Rami what would be your Tunisian-dreamteam if every player was fit, and in what strategic formation i know it depends on the opponent but let’s say if we where to play against Spain… who would you pick?

Does anyone think Jaidi will pass Attouga in most caps for the Ttunisian NT, Jaidi has 102 now and attouga had 110.

Folks, your unrealistic expectations are quite misplaced! As you may recall, the Dimanche Sport guest mentioned that most of what the German coah said about Chermiti was phony because he was the guy who picked him and therefore must have nothing to say but praise for him! The real proof is that he only got to play for a couple of minutes, when some of you expected him to play the entire 90 minutes. Chermiti has a long way to go, and I hope he realizes that. If he does not, he’ll be surely disappointed and so will you!

I think this was a to big game for Chermiti and the coach did not want to take a risk.Maybe Chermiti can play longer than 2 min against Hoffenheim.Next week is the same, they play against Hsv.The number 4 of the Bundesliga. These are all the games that they will be playing:24 apr ‘09,
3 mei ‘09, 17:00 Hamburger SV Hertha BSC
9 mei ‘09, 15:30 Hertha BSC VFL Bochum
12 mei ‘09, 20:00 1.FC Köln Hertha BSC
16 mei ‘09, 15:30 Hertha BSC FC Schalke 04
23 mei ‘09, 15:30 Karlsruher SC Hertha BSC
Btw:Essifi is a good forward too and a big talent and i think Zitouni can not play in the nt any more, only if someone is injuried.

Here are all the games of Wolfsburg:
26 apr ‘09, 17:00 Energie Cottbus VFL Wolfsburg
2 mei ‘09, 15:30 VFL Wolfsburg 1899 Hoffenheim
9 mei ‘09, 15:30 VFB Stuttgart VFL Wolfsburg
12 mei ‘09, 20:00 VFL Wolfsburg Borussia Dortmund
16 mei ‘09, 15:30 Hannover 96 VFL Wolfsburg
23 mei ‘09, 15:30 VFL Wolfsburg Werder Bremen
They are the number 1 in the Bundesliga and Wolfsburg lead the Bundesliga only with 2 point more than Herta.(Herta played 1 game more)
Herta want to be the number 1 of the Bundesliga or at least Champions Leugeu Football. This is a stressfull time for herta and for Chermiti.Next week is the a big game of Herta, they are playing against Hsv and if they win there they are 3 or 2 of the Bundesliga so dont think Chermiti is getting that much time.
