Carthage Eaglettes Qualify for 2008 Women’s African Cup on First Attempt!
In their inaugural attempt to qualify for the 2008 African Cup in Equatorial Guinea the national team came up against the much more experienced and arguably more talented Algeria side. Things didn’t look perfect after the 0-0 draw in Algeria but our women pulled out a nail-biting 2-1 win over their Maghrebine sisters in the return leg. With the score knotted at 1-1 in injury time, our hopes looked to be dashed until Maherzia Zouaoui put us through by showing great determination in following up her own header with a tap in.
It looks like we are reaping the rewards of finally setting up a real league for women in 2006. It still has to be improved but this historic achievement for women’s soccer will only help in that regard. Bravo ladies! While the task ahead is far from easy (especially if you consider the stiff competition), we know that you will honor us come November. Mabrouk a3lina ou 3ala Bnatna el Kawarjiat.
Pregame and Highlights
Its a shame that they don’t get to use the same facilities like the mens team !!

It’s funny you say that Moni, after seeing them in the hotel Zoubayer Baya said that he was impressed with what’s being done for them in terms of facilities etc. He said that the Futsal team doesn’t even get this type of treatment. Still though, I’m sure there can be much improvement.
