CAF Confrontation for Etoile and Esperance

May 17th, 2008 | By: Rami | 2 Comments »

Confed CupThe draw for the CAF Confederation Cup elimination matches was completed today in Cameroon and the big news is that we have a classico on our hands! The winners of these matches will secure their passage to the group stage. Take a look:

Etoile Sportive du Sahel vs. Esperance Sportive de Tunis

Club Africain vs. Djoliba of Mali

Platinum Stars of South Africa vs. Club Sportif Sfaxien

The away matches will take place on 11th, 12th or 13th of July 2008 and the return legs will be played on the 25th, 26th or 27th of the same month.

This means Esperance has the chance to play the spoiler role on two fronts. They have their final game of the domestic season against Etoile and now they will try to knock them out of this competition. Etoile, meanwhile, will be looking to return to the form that we all know they are capable of (maybe that sheep they killed after their last practice will help). The teams have a well documented rivalry that spans many years so you can bet fans will be paying very close attention to this tie. Predictions anyone?

Our country has a lot riding on this now since we have no representatives left in the Champions League. May the best teams win!
