Best Goal of Tournament thus far

June 20th, 2006 | By: Bessam | 7 Comments »

On the offical world cup website there is a list of the best Goals so far.

Oddly enough none of the Argentina goals are there and our very own Jaziri scissor kick goal isnt there.

The best goal they have is Fernando Torres against Ukraine, and as I remember it was the buildup from Puyol that made it magnificent but they dont show it.

So I would like to show once again Ziad Jaziri’s goal vs Saudia Arabia. (i dont now what language they are speaking)

However Goal of the tournament so far for me is between Cambiasso for Argentina vs Serbia and Montenegro and the before mentioned Torres vs Ukraine

What do you all think, by the way sorry for the quality of the videos but they are still quality goals

I also thought Jaziri’s goal was one of the best (if not the best). The Argentine goal didn’t impress me that much. The quality of passing was phenomenal but taking that away, the goal itself is average. I’m partial to the long range shots myself (two of the German goals in the first game, and Rosicky’s shot in the USA match). I’d probably have to pick Lahm’s goal as the best so far, putting a ball into the upper corner of the goal from the opposite corner of the penalty box. That’s a once in a lifetime shot!!

I disagree, I like goals that are the outcome of team play, lots of precision passes that break down a defense. In that sense the Torres goal is #2 and the Argentine goal is #1. Gotta love teamwork!

I wonder why Tevez’s solo dash past 2 defenders didn’t get much love… that was a pretty sweet goal..

And the Cambiasso goal was special cuz it was a typical Argentina goal from the Menotti days where passing it put a premium. that and Crespo’s back heal was worthy of it being one of the better goals of the tourney…

And that’s the beauty of football. We can enjoy and put premiums on different aspects of the game. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy Cambiasso’s, Torres, or Tevez’s goals, I just don’t rate them quite as highly as the goals I mentioned. Merely personal opinion, nothing more.
